Another previously broken section is now joined. As reported by Bob Downing in today’s Beacon Journal there is a new aqueduct bridge that spans the Tuscarawas River, west of Bolivar and east of Shepler Church Road. It connects Tuscarawas County with the bulk of the trail up north.
The addition of this bridge means that 85 of the 101 miles of the Towpath Trail are complete. To those cyclists and hikers that enjoy traveling the TowPath Trail end to end, either during the season or as a day challenge the bridge will allow you now to directly access the 2.9 mile section that runs from Ft. Laurens State Memorail in Bolivar to Canal Lands Park near Zoar.
Also, earlier this year Tuscarawas County opened a 2.7 mile extension from Zoar to Zoarville and State Route 800. Work is continuing on running the trail west from Bolivar to the new bridge and into Dover and New Philadelphia.
