The Ohio to Erie Trail and traveling season

by Ruth Kaser for Cycling Articles

Downtown Barberton has received an uptick in bicycle traffic from cyclists traveling from the south. The Connector Bridge at Robinson Avenue lets the cyclists off the Towpath to obtain necessaries while on their journey that have  been as close as an overnight stay at our neighbor Casa Bella-the Bed and Breakfast on
Third Street, and a bit further-Cleveland.

Riders stopping at RD Bike Shop have shared their ride starts and quite a few utilize the Ohio to Erie Trail to get to the TowPath Trail. Ohio Bikeways describes the Ohio to Erie Trail as a cross state bikeway that is currently about 80% complete. It begins in Cincinnati and runs to Columbus and then northeast to Cleveland. Once completed it will be the longest continuous bikeway in Ohio. The trail is actually a network of trails some not yet completed. The completed portions include:Little Miami Trail,Prairie Grass Trail, Roberts Pass,Hoover Scenic Trail, Kokosing Gap & Mohican Valley Trail. The Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail is also part of this trail network. Links to maps of these trails and more trail information can be found at Ohio Bikeways. More information about the Ohio & Erie Trail network can be found at Ohio to Erie Trail.org.

We look forward to meeting more cyclists as they stop in to refresh, resupply and refuel.
