R-D Bike Shop owners Ruth & Don Kaser attended the 2015 Summit County Trails Forum on Monday, October 19, 2015. The forum was held at the Springfield Township Community Center, and was open to the public with prior registration. Forum attendees included area planning directors, project coordinators, township and county officials, trail supporters and us.
We sat in on discussions involving the I Heart Trails Project, the personal and economic benefits of trails, and we participated in an AMATs Bike-n-Brainstorm ride in the area around Springfield Lake exploring the areas cycling options and challenges.
What did we take home? We took home several copies of the Summit County Trail & Greenway plan- it includes nifty map showing existing and proposed bike, hike, bridle, and water trails. We learned how our local, county, and state funds are being leveraged along with public, private and corporate funds to create new trails. We took home an appreciation of how cooperation between all of the above groups is helping to bring more opportunities for economic development (jobs), and health & safety(safe routes to get to school or play).
Stay tuned for more posts involving some of the proposed, and in progress trails.
