I previously posted of the Public Meeting regarding this project. I had sent a letter to the City of Norton with our suggestions for the project that included the following:
The addition of sidewalks and a bikeway or lane of 5′ wide. These additions would go along way to help the safe passage of not only students but pedestrian and bicycle traffic through Norton.
The City of Norton offered the following response to our suggestions:
The proposed project includes 5′ wide sidewalks along both sides of Cleveland Massillon Rd. At this time, there are no plans for the addition of dedicated bike lanes or a separate dual-use paths along Cleveland-Massillon Road due to right-of-way impacts to adjacent property.
Preliminary engineering studies determined that bicycle facilities are not warranted on the Cleveland-Massillon Road project since the Pigeon Creek/ Wolf Creek Greenway Trail Plan could function as the north-south bike path alternate thru the City of Norton, thereby making any bike facilities on Cleve-Mass Rd. redundant as a recreational resource. Furthermore, the City of Norton Comprehensive Plan includes alternate bikeways off of Cleve-Mass Rd. as well.
The road project is tentatively scheduled for construction in 2014.
The Pigeon Creek Greenway trail is listed as a priority trail on the Summit County Trails and Greenway Plan.
