The herons holding court by Summit Lake

In addition to Downtown Barberton there is alot going on in Downtown Akron. The Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition in cooperation with several other partners is working to encourage cycling as a means of transportation and exploration of things to do in Downtown Akron and the Summit Lake area.

They are extending an invitation to everyone to check out Cascade Plaza in downtown Akron and Summit Lake on April 4 through April 15  as new ideas are tried to see how we can build better public spaces where everyone can gather to celebrate and connect to their community. As the gateway to Cuyahoga Valley National Park, our park heritage will be celebrated by placing a log cabin on Cascade Plaza to serve as a free public space for meetings and social activities. Outdoor programs such as nature walks, guided bicycle tours, games, music and yoga classes will be offered throughout the two weeks, as well as a happy hour event on April 8 from 5-8 p.m.

You can explore the natural beauty of Summit Lake April 8 through April 15 as Summit Lake Park is enhanced with picnic tables, benches, and grills free of charge. Please join us on Sunday, April 10 from 12-5 p.m., as we help make Summit Lake a place for play, family gatherings and picnics. Free outdoor programs such as pontoon boat rides, nature walks, bicycle tours, music and a fishing derby will be offered.
