Promoting the regional trail system

by Ruth Kaser for Towpath News

Last evening Don and I had the pleasure of attending the Towpath Century Ride reception. The reception recognized the top fundraising individual and teams for the 2013 FirstMerit Towpath Century Ride. The goal of the ride had been to raise at least $75,000 for the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and regional connector-over $84,000 was raised for this years ride.

The ride is fully-supported, and travels 101 miles on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Riders can chose from a 1-day or 2-day ride and can participate as individuals or teams. The ride starts in downtown Cleveland, and travels through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, downtown Akron, Canal Fulton and Bolivar, Ohio. The dates have been set for next years ride: May 17 and 18th of 2014.

Don and I have set an ambitious plan of not only being the water stop sponsor at the Wolf Creek Trailhead but to ride as team R-D. To do this we will need help: as riders we will need sponsors. Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Any donations made to the FirstMerit Towpath Century Ride are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Water stop sign
