People for Bikes reports that this week they released their latest round of Community Grants-to the tune of nearly $50,000 nationwide. The grants for this spring 2015 cycle varied in amounts from $800 to $10,000 and will support infrastructure and advocacy initiatives in seven communities across the country.
None of the grants awarded in this cycle were for projects in Ohio, however some of the previously awarded Ohio grants include:
- Cleveland Metro Parks Riverwalk Trail Awarded in 2014, the Riverwalk Trail is part of a planned redevelopment at Rivergate Park along the Cuyahoga River. The future 1.1 mile trail will link several existing paths, connect to neighborhoods and area attractions, and provide access from downtown to the new Rivergate Park.
- Ohio to Erie Trail. Awarded in 2002,the grant to the Ohio to Erie Trail Fund was for the purchase of 2.3 miles of right-of-way about 20 miles southwest of Columbus. Currently, 224 miles of the trail are open for use. When finished, the trail will be 460 miles long, and cyclists and pedestrians will be able to travel from Lake Erie across Ohio linking Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati via paved multi-use paths.
