Our Ride on a New Trail

by Ruth Kaser for NE Ohio Tidbits for Cyclers

Don and I spent a lovely Sunday afternoon riding on a new trail in our area- the County Line Trail between Rittman and Creston.

Don on trail

This is a multi use trail just competed in 2011. The above picture includes Don riding his Catrike 700. Don is smiling as this is a paved trail, and it is a perfect trail for trikes. We have found the crushed limestone trails to be problematic when riding the trike as there is no way for all three wheels to ride in the tamped down section of the path. We started our ride on this trail in Rittman.

The Rittman end offers parking at the trail head which is just south of the east end of Ohio Ave. We rode approximately 3 miles on the trail and then needed to ride on the road for almost a mile. The trail web site indicates the reason for this is that Rails to Trails was not able to fully secure a right-of-way for the section from C.R. 504 to Kauffman Avenue in Sterling. However, the road section is clearly marked with green signs, and we found the road to be very lightly traveled even on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

The trail ends at Creston and you turn around and ride back to Rittman. We recorded a 13 mile round trip and are looking forward to a return trip.
