One of my favorite cycling stories of 2012

by Ruth Kaser for Cycling Articles

Concerns a World Hour Record for a 100 year old. The story features Robert Marchand. Robert wanted to do something special for his 100th birthday, so he traveled from his home in France to the World Cycling Centre in Switzerland. The purpose of this trip was to attempt the world hour performance on the centre’s velodrome.

Robert noted that he had not cycled on a track in 80 years. The track utilizes a fixed gear bicycle and Robert prefers cycling outside. However with a February birthday the piles of snow made outdoor cycling not preferable.

If you want to read about Robert’s personal secrets for a long and healthy life and to see a picture of him on the track you can find the article at the Track Cycling News Website
