Fun at the Open Streets Event in Akron

June 25th, 2017

We had a great time at the event and appreciate the hard work by everyone involved to make the event a success. We accessed the TowPath Trail at the Robinson Avenue Connector with our first stop at the Wilbeth Rd Trailhead. From there it was Wilbeth Road and Firestone Blvd, along the way  we greeted the friendly people at  the Bridgestone table and saw the home of the Akron Racers-Firestone Stadium. We saw the sights on Aster Avenue and then it was back to the Towpath and on to Summit Lake -we enjoyed seeing the community area, and got our Summer Biking Spree form signed at the Summit Metro Parks table. Our last segment was Kenmore we rode down Kenmore Blvd and checked out the Rialto Theatre! and the Community Center.

The pictures below are of the Summit Lake Community area and furniture built by the Youth Corps.

7 weeks remain until Barberton Better Block can you help?

June 17th, 2017

A fun event is coming at the end of July! During the week ending on Saturday, July 29 you have an opportunity to help reactivate Second Street. Barberton Better Block will revitalize storefronts, encourage interested business owners to open a store on Second Street, and create a safe place for families to have fun. During Better Block, Second Street will be transformed into a walkable, bikeable, and vibrant neighborhood. Community-built installations will include outdoor seating, temporary plazas, food trucks, kids’ play areas, live entertainment and improved bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.

Are you willing to be an essential part of this great and meaningful grass roots community project? After all, we wouldn’t want you to miss out on being part of this unique opportunity to be involved in the betterment of the City of Barberton. There are several opportunities to help before, during and after the event.
