House Bill 154 passed the Ohio Senate by a 30-1 vote on Thursday, December 8. Governor Kasich signed the bill on December 19th. Ohio motorists will need to keep the bill provisions in mind effective March 19, 2017. The Ohio Bicycle Federation has worked since 2009 for passage of a 3-foot passing clearance bill.
The OBF issued a press release following the passage of the bill.
The bill will:
1. Set the safe distance for passing Ohio bicyclists at 3 feet,
2. Permit all Ohio vehicles to proceed through an intersection after stopping and yielding right of-way when not detected by the device meant to move the signal from red to green.
