by Ruth Kaser for Cycling Articles

If you are a fast rider you have a chance to help out the hungry in North East Ohio on November 23 by first riding in the inaugural Cranksgiving Akron -registration opens at 9am at St. Bernards church and then meeting the Cranksgiving Cleveland group at West Park Station at 11am.

Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels. Part bike ride, part food drive, part scavenger hunt, it has been held annually in New York City since 1999. As indicated in the name a bicycle is involved. You bring a bike, a bag, a lock, and about $15-$20 to buy food. All of the food collected at grocery stores will be donated to the soup kitchen at -depends on the location. The link on the word Cranksgiving takes you to the .org website and you can select your city.

Cranksgiving Cleveland as well as Cranksgiving Akron 1  have a FaceBook page, also. The Cleveland event raised more than $2000 for the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland to help feed the needy during the holiday season. Akron purchases will be donated to St Bernards Hot Meal Program.
