Happy 4th of July, our Freedom Trail ride

by Ruth Kaser for Cycling Articles

Appropriately we joined the Spin Off Cyclists Bicycle Club on their ride on the Freedom Trail . We enjoyed a lovely ride to check out the Kent Heritage Festival in Downtown Kent.

The ride start was the Lion’s Park Trail Head in Tallmadge, the trail head being just beyond Tallmadge Circle. We enjoyed the leafy, very green scenery along the paved asphalt trail. The trail is an unused railroad corridor. We followed the trail till its end at Middlebury Road in Kent. Turning left onto Middlebury Road we cruised down the hill and turned on to the Portage Bike & Hike Trail. There we marveled at the height of the Cuyahoga River-and were glad the trail was not flooded. We took this trail, also paved, to its end at Tannery Park.

We parked our bikes at the trees by the Haymaker Farmer’s Market and sampled the market offerings as well as the stands at the Kent Heritage Festival.

Throughout downtown Kent there were some fun bike racks-of course they had to be captured in pictures. Also begging to be pictured was the flag, placed in a tree along the Freedom Trail
