In Barberton a flood watch was in effect until 10 pm on Thursday due to high water. High water was a concern for our neighbors farther down the Towpath Trail in the Massillon area. The Akron Canton Airport recorded 2.02 inches of rainfall from midnight Thursday to 3 pm with the heaviest rain between 7 am and 2 pm. Today the sun is out, and while it is a tad nippy outside the water has receded ,(at least around Downtown Barberton). However, the trails will be soggy and sections of the TowPath are closed due to the effects of flooding.
Signs are posted along the TowPath by the Stark County Parks District in areas north of Massillon and other locations alerting riders to please keep their distance. The affected sections in Stark County are closed indefinitely until the water recedes any damage can be accessed.
