Are you planning on riding more in 2016?

by Ruth Kaser for NE Ohio Tidbits for Cyclers

If your riding plans for 2016 include more miles and longer rides we have a suggestion for you: the 7th Annual First Merit Towpath Century Ride! R-D Bike Shop provides support for this ride and sponsorship of the Snyder Avenue/Wolf Creek Trailhead rest stop.

The registration for the ride is now open. This year’s ride will take place on May 14-15, 2016. This ride fills up fast and the ride organizers, the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, limits the spots to 125 bicycle riders. The 2016 ride already has more than 80 spots already reserved, so if you are interested please sign up today! To learn how to register, volunteer, or pledge to a rider, visit the Towpath Century Ride website. The Century Ride offers participants a unique experience to see the entire length of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area, while raising money to benefit the continued development of the Towpath Trail. Bicyclists travel 101-miles in either one or two days in a fully supported ride. The first Towpath Century Ride, held in 2009, supported only 17 riders who raised $22,000 for the Towpath Trail. Growing quickly over the past seven years, 117 riders participated in 2015, raising more than $143,000 for the cause.
