Navigating the attractions in Downtown Akron, and getting to and from the Tow Path will be easier thanks to grants from the John S. & James L. Knight Foundation. Picture yourself riding along the Towpath on a beautiful day, and you get the idea to make a side trip to check out (fill in the downtown attraction)but then where is it from the TowPath trail? Yours is a common question and one that the iTowpath Project is addressing.
The street-sidewalk connector from the Towpath Trail at Barteges Avenue to the Akron Zoo with animal prints leading the way is one of the projects from the 2015 Knight Foundation Grant that is part of iTowpath. Look for projects in 2016, including way-finding signage, underpass enhancements, connections to local attractions, and improvements to the Quaker and Ash entrance. For examples of the planned entrance enhancements check out the Ohio & Erie Canalway website page on iTowpath. You can also stop by RD Bike Shop for a hard copy of the iTowpath summary!
