A century ride can be one of those “bucket list” bicycling goals you set. If a century ride is on your list, may we suggest an organized ride such as the Huntington Towpath Century Ride. Organized rides offer the support of rest stops with food and water at measured distances during the ride. An organized ride also offers repair and bail out support.
The Huntington Towpath Century Ride is organized by the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition and it is one of their major fundraising events. It offers participants a unique experience to see the entire length of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area, while raising money to benefit the continued development of the Towpath Trail. Bicyclists travel 101-miles in either one or two days in a fully supported ride. The first Towpath Century Ride, held in 2009, supported only 17 riders who raised $22,000 for the Towpath Trail. Growing quickly over the past seven years, 125 riders participated in 2016, raising more than $142,000 for the cause.
R-D Bike Shop will again be a sponsor of the event- the water stop at Wolf Creek/Snyder Avenue.
The Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition is still looking for volunteers and sponsors for the 2017 Huntington Towpath Century Ride. This event is made possible by the generous support of many volunteers.
